Supporter Spotlight

Meet Doug and Bethany, both, Retired Fire Fighters from Alexandria Virginia, who first became involved with our organization when they heard about Allen and Paul embarking on their first journey back in 2013.  When the boys reached their final destination at Glenburnie Park Boat launch in New Bern NC, Doug and Bethany were there to greet them with a cold brew and a cigar. After much conversation an unbreakable friendship and alliance was born.

Year after year these two very special people host the P4P paddlers as they cross the finish line. They work out every last detail for a celebration fit for a Hero!  All this on their very own property known as The Round House. Live music, food trucks and countless numbers of supporter’s friends and families waiting for the Paddlers to welcome them in.  There is no greater site or feeling as a Paddler being welcomed into this Celebration!

In addition to hosting The Long Paddle celebration each year, Bethany was one of our original board members in the early days.  To date, Doug and Bethany have raised thousands of dollars and awareness for our cause and continue to do so.

A few years ago, Bethany’s Father was diagnosed with Parkinson ’s disease and her new mission was born..  Bethany started The Bike Box Project & Peddling for Parkinson’s. Her subsequent involvement with the Michael J. Fox organization has catapulted them onto other projects like their latest baby, Rock Steady Boxing, a non-contact fitness class for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.  Please take a moment to check out what they do and see what true Heroes look like!
